  2023 BIG SOUTH-OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Terrell Allen, DL, Sr., Tennessee State,...Allen, a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, led the FCS in sacks (1.32/game) and tackles for loss (2.5/game) during the season and ranked second nationally in forced fumbles (0.45/game). Overall the senior tallied 28.0 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks in 11 games while also adding 65 tackles (44 solo), 10 quarterback hurries, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery. He led Tennessee State to its first winning season since 2017 and keyed a defense that was second in the Association in total defense (333.82 yards allowed per game) and third in scoring defense (24.7 points allowed per game).   NOV 21 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Darius Harper, DB, 6-0, 185, Sr., Brentwood, Tenn., Tennessee State,...Harper did a little of everything as Tennessee State closed out the season with a 22-14 road win over Texas A&M-Commerce. The senior had five tackles (four solo), picked off two passes (one that he returned for an interception), recovered a fumble that he returned 20 yards and added a pass breakup. On the first play from scrimmage, he picked off a pass and raced 28 yards as TSU would never trail in the game. Early in the second quarter he picked up a fumble and returned it 20 yards, which led to a Tennessee State touchdown nine plays later. Before halftime Harper had another interception, this time returning it 45 yards and setting up an eventual TSU field goal, as the Big Blue led 19-7 at the break.   Darius Harper picked off a pass on the first play from scrimmage and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown, then stripped receiver Andrew Armstrong of the ball in the back of the end zone on the game's final play to preserve Tennessee State's 22-14 win over Texas A&M-Commerce in the regular season finale for both schools Saturday. Harper, the senior son of former Tennessee Titans cornerback Nick Harper, finished with two interceptions and recovered a fumble as the Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak. The victory makes Tennessee State (4-7, 2-3 Ohio Valley) 9-13 in coach Eddie George's two seasons. Texas A&M-Commerce (5-6) drove 71 yards in the final three minutes and started the final play from the Tennessee State 3.   Draylen Ellis threw three touchdown passes, two in a 24-point second quarter, to lead Tennessee State to a 37-17 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday. After Kaleb Mosley kicked 46- and 42-yard field goals and Deveon Bryant turned a fumble recovery into a two-play, 5-yard drive with a 1-yard TD run, Ellis took over. Ellis found Karate Brenson for a 12-yard score and Devon Starling for a 49-yard touchdown for a 27-0 lead for the Tigers (3-4, 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference) with 31 seconds to go in the half. Jonah O'Brien got the Panthers (2-5, 1-1) back in the game with a pair of touchdown passes in the third quarter but Mosley connected with another 42-yard kick and then Ellis found John Roberts IV for a 52-yard score.
